VII of Wands

Do you remember life before social media? Where the world relied on nightly news and newspapers to stay up-to-date? Triggered responses were so much less public because you had to stop and physically write a letter and wait for it to be printed.

But then came Friendster and MySpace and Orkut. Then Facebook. Twitter. Instagram. LinkedIn; and social media because less about being "social" and more about emotionally-charged insta-posts to silos of like-minded people. Politics became (even more so) unhinged and people felt they had the right (freedom of speech!) to tear down other people simply because they had a keyboard and internet connection. And thus the public morals of humanity began to whither on the vine.

Todays' card is the VII of Wands - a defensive card about fighting for your beliefs and your rights, but also about being attacked. Who are you in this card? The defender or the attacker? Both?

Message of the Day: The world we live in today isn't really all that different than it was 50, 60, 70 years ago. The difference is the instant access to information we now have. Ownership of one's identity: race, religion, sexuality, gender identity, political status, vaccination status - these are things people openly wear on their sleeves - some to find community, others to openly fight anything remotely different from what they know.

The VII of Wands asks us to take a look at ourselves. What personal battles do you fight? Do you instinctively become defensive when approached about a personal label? Do you attack as a method of defense? Are you able to truly accept others for who they are and learn about their experience with empathy? Or do you attack that what you don't know for fear it may change you "stable" understanding the world?

Take some time today to reflect on your past and who you have become? What has lead you to fight the battles you fight? Who is that battle helping and is it fought out of light and love or fear and hate? Sometimes we are taught things when we're young that can have lasting impressions, but fail to serve us in the future. Change, after all, is inevitable.
