Ace of Pentacles

Gorgeous day today. Hot weather out. Nasty-ass humidity is gone. Sun is blazing. I know much of the country is under snow right now, and while I know that a lot of people really hate that, hopefully it will provide some relief and help ease the drought in parts (uh... most) of the US.

Today's card is the Ace of Pentacles, a beautiful card for a beautiful day. Traditionally, the Ace of Pentacles is about new beginnings, new opportunities, and manifestation - usually in the realm of the physical world (new job, new possessions, new house, etc.). It's a card announcing the onset of an opportunity - but it's just that: an opportunity. Nothing is guaranteed as we have to act on that opportunity to bring it to fruition.

Message of the Day: When we look at the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith interpretation of the Ace of Pentacles (similar to the card on the left, shown above), you can see the hand is being presented above a garden, and the Ace of Pentacles can sort of be thought of as a "seed" to be planted with intended and promised growth. As you look at your life today, what "seeds" are available for you to plant and nourish?

This, of course, could be a very literal fertility/pregnancy interpretation; but it could also be about establishing new traditions, particularly as we come up to the holiday season.

What traditions have you taken into your your home and family? What has been handed down to you and you, in turn, hand down to your friends, kids, or chosen family? Tradition is great for nostalgia and keeping those warm feelings stored for when things don't quite work out, and we're left to fend for ourselves for a season (hello pandemic).

With that being said (as all cards of the Tarot represent both light and shadow), some traditions we've grown up with could be outdated or inappropriate (given cultural context or political awareness... <cough> Thanksgiving). So maybe it's also time we "weed" our garden and rid ourselves of those traditions that no longer serve us.
