VIII of Pentacles
Work is a necessary evil for most of us. Even those who don't have a corporate 9-5 type job are hard at work with other responsibilities and daily tasks that must be done.

Here we are: January 4, 2023. Most of us are back at work. Can we see a raise of hands from everyone who is excited by this? Anyone? Anyone? I'd like to say that I came back from the "break" with new energy and resolve to get shit done, but... #covid.
Funny enough, I actually pulled the V of Cups again today, even after shuffling three times. But I can only take so much grief and regret. That tells me that someone reading this needs to revisit yesterday's card and think some more on it.
The next card I pulled was the VIII of Pentacles, the card of mastery. This is a pretty straightforward card about increasing your focus and working hard to complete the task at hand. There is often some form of sacrifice in this card as you shut out distractions to march to the finish line. To be clear, this is not really a card about money; no chasing paper seen here. This is about honing and refinement.
Message of the Day: Work is a necessary evil for most of us. Even those who don't have a corporate 9-5 type job are hard at work with other responsibilities and daily tasks that must be done. I think we, as adults, understand that repetition and focus improves performance. It improves the final product and sometimes shortens the amount of time it takes to finish. Whether it be knocking out a quarterly audit or baking a loaf of bread, persistence and attention to detail pay off in the end.
The VIII of Pentacles is a card about dedication and mastery of a skill. It's very often related to a career, but it can also represent other things like focusing on your health and body (upright pentacles can also represent the physical body, creating the shape of a head, two arms, and two feet). So get in there and refine that form; make those squats count! It could even be perceived as putting in the work to "master" a relationship, taking the time to smooth out some of those rough spots.
However, this card also can come as a warning: something about "all work and no play..." When we hide our heads in our work for too long, we miss out on the world around us. While hard work often requires sacrifice, it is up to you to gauge the sacrifice and if that price is worth the product. Because let's be honest, no one wants that V of Cups I mentioned earlier to be brought about because you chose work over something more important...
So as 2023 comes barreling at us, think about what in your life needs a little more focus and dedication. What could use refinement and your oh-so-suave touch? Or are you allowing your work to become a distraction from the things in your life that are important? Where do your priorities lie?
