Queen of Swords
I love Tarot decks. Every deck is so different, and there are some really cheeky decks out there. I was gifted the Golden Girls deck as a belated birthday gift, and I absolutely LOVE it. If you're a fan of the show, it's definitely a deck to grab.
Today's card is the Queen of Swords, so proudly represented by Dorthy Zbornak in our middle deck, cuz if there was ever someone who would tell you how it is, it's Dorthy Zbornak. As a personality, I think the Queen of Swords really shines through in people like Bea Arthur, Patti LuPone, Nancy Pelosi, and Dolly Parton (I mean, who doesn't love a strong woman). Of course, I chose all women here, but the Queen of Swords is not limited to gender. Men can also be Queens (Hey, Ryan Reynolds! Yassss!).
Traditionally, a Queen of Swords is an excellent communicator who is able to cut through the bullshit to get their point across. They are a critical thinker who exudes authority and power. They are free-spirited and are equated with justice, but also have a sharp tongue that will cut a bitch down.
Alternatively, a "Karen" may be considered a Queen of Swords (Reversed) - someone who paints a face of authority and power but has corrupted their "power" through narcissism and self-serving goals. Plus, "Karens" usually aren't great communicators, and rely solely on spewing racist and bigoted garbage in an attempt to make themselves feel superior. They are loud and grab attention, but are not effective leaders nor communicators.
Message of the Day: Are you a Queen with a Sword? Are you confident and well-spoken, able to successfully communicate your desires to those around you? Are you sharp-tongued and stand up for what is right? Can you cut a bitch with your side-eye? If so, then we bow to you.
But many of us struggle with these personality qualities. We find ourselves introverted with social phobias and insecurities and are afraid to bring attention to ourselves. The freedom and independence that we see in the Queen of Swords is something that sounds nice, but super scary when faced with the challenge of raising our voice.
When we take the Queen of Swords and turn her energy inward, we look at our ability to communicate our desires, thoughts, and feelings to both ourselves and others. I told my son just last week that he if wants something, he needs to ask and not just stand there in silence hoping we ask him what he wants. I told him that if he doesn't find the courage to speak up for what he wants, opportunities will pass him by left and right. We must use our words to explain and identify what we want, need, and are owed. (And boy has he taken that to heart.)
Alternatively, sometimes when we open ourselves to others we find ourselves being hurt or attacked. What happens to the Queen of Swords in this instance? Does she grab her sword and charge in pointy end first, cutting anyone who dares get in her way? Or does she settle back, take a deep breath and respond in a way that improves the situation rather than raging with a mouth full of vitriol? The maturity of the Queen of Swords (as opposed to the less-mature Page of Swords) leans more towards the ability to show self-restraint and has the ability to craft her words with purpose, without emotionally-charged destruction.
The Queen of Sword's challenge for today is to look inward and find the things you are keeping down for fear of being in the spotlight. Learn to communicate those things when it matters rather than allowing people to roll over you. Remember: if you don't speak up for what you want, you'll never be granted the opportunity.
