Ace of Pentacles

Nothing warms a Monday morning quite like seeing an image of Bambi pooping out baby Bambi(es? - what is the plural of Bambi?); and a happy Monday mornin' to ya!

Ace of Pentacles: seems about right for the ass-end of February. We've been having 80-85° days here, and spring is clearly in full bloom here. All the dead shit from the freezes we had this winter has fallen away, and everything is now sprouting future allergy problems. Yay spring.

I say the Ace of Pentacles is appropriate because it's a card of opportunity and new beginnings in Tarot, specifically (as it's a Pentacle) in the world of material things; it's a seed of potential. New job opportunities, new clothes, new foods, new health... stuff. New new new! But as the Ace of Pentacles is the seed of opportunity, it's only as good as the nourishment we give it; you gotta till that earth, break a sweat, and find a good home for that seed so it will grow into fortune and all the fabulous things!

The Ace of Pentacles playlist is available on Spotify.

Message of the Day: Last week had me thinking a lot about cycles (lunar, behavioral, seasonal, growth, etc.), and the Ace of Pentacles represents the start of a new cycle. Perhaps the previous cycle (ending with the X of Pentacles), has concluded and something new is ready to begin, ORRRR perhaps you have multiple cycles running in tandem and this is the start of something new.

But as we take this concept internally, we have to look at our garden and see all the ugly and wilted bits that need to be pruned away (we're coming out of winter, after all). It's time to get our spring on and find fresh ground for new growth and potential. I mean, if we're truly honest with ourselves, we all have some fucking ugly parts of us; things we don't like people to see - shit, things we don't even want ourselves to see (that's why I shower in the dark). While I jest (not really), I'm talking internally. (But as this IS the Ace of Pentacles - maybe it IS a physical thing too. If there is something you don't physically like about yourself, maybe now's the time to seriously think about a realistic exercise plan, key word being realistic.)

For example, I've been trying to be mindful of focusing on the positive things in life and not being weighed down so much by the negative. Sometimes that's damn hard to do because it literally comes at us from every direction. We just have to remember that this is our garden, and we are responsible for maintaining the beauty and not letting in the things that sting. I think it's a matter of perspective, but we have to be careful to balance that mindset so that it doesn't turn into just not caring. My cousin, for example, is a successful neurologist. I was talking to her yesterday about how work's going and she said she's on-call with two different hospitals for the next five weeks on top of running her own practice. I was like, "yikes, that sounds like a lot." And she said, "It really is, but my mom was right. She told me this is what I signed up for when I became a doctor." True words. She could bitch and moan or she could accept it for what it is and make the best of it. And that's why she's the penultimate professional!

Maybe your Ace of Pentacles moment (opportunity!) is to start the internal cleaning process - a spring cleaning, if you will. Take some personal inventory and find something, in particular, you'd like to focus on or improve. Maybe it's time to start focusing on your savings, 401k, or investments again. Lower that cholesterol. Lose some weight. Get a new insulin pump. Start a new hobby. Learn to bake some bread (if you need pointers, I can help!). But the idea is to take action. If you sit and do nothing, the opportunity is as good as gone.

Another thing to remember - ya know, every day is an Ace of Pentacles kind of day. You don't need a Monday or a new year or spring to find ways to improve yourself or start on some new golden opportunity. The card is simply here to remind you that the opportunity is available - you just need to grab and it and run.
