The Magician as a Child
Children channel The Magician in their creativity and resourcefulness, turning ordinary objects into magical tools, fostering self-confidence, balance, and the ability to manifest their dreams.

Like The Fool, children naturally channel The Magician in how they interact with the world. A box becomes a castle. Stuffed animals and action figures come to life in elaborate stories of adventure. Friendships simply require the existence of another physical body, and sometimes not even that.
Here are a few other ways The Magician can influence children:
Promote Self-Confidence
Since the Magician is based in faith in their abilities, we can take these same principles and teach children to find strength and confidence in their talents and skills, just as The Magician has confidence in his mastery over the tools and elements. Learning to believe in yourself takes practice and encouragement, and it is just as easy (if not easier) for children to give up in frustration and defeat when they don’t get something the first time. This is also helpful in teaching children to manage self-expectation.
Celebrating their achievements, however small, and letting them handle age-appropriate tasks independently can boost their self-esteem and give them a sense of accomplishment. It promotes self-reliance and a “can-do” attitude.
Cultivate Vision & Intention
Big words like “manifestation” and “intention” can be daunting and confusing for children. However, teaching children the power of setting goals and the power of mindful, focused thought is easier to come by. Remember that people, children included, work with manifestation in different ways, and knowing which method suits your child best is important.
Setting goals together and discussing their significance can help children understand the purpose behind their actions. Begin with simple, achievable objectives that are relevant to their daily lives, like brushing their teeth on their own or putting together a salad for dinner. This shows us that, like the Magician, we can accomplish anything we set our mind to.
Reinforce Balance
As The Magician reflects the concept of “As above, so below,” we can reiterate the importance of maintaining balance and moderation in the things we do. Maintaining the balance between work and play, emotion and logic, and giving and receiving can help you child to learn to navigate the challenges in their future life with grace.
Just as The Magician channels the energies of the universe to manifest his desires, teaching your child to find equilibrium in their actions and emotions can empower them to harness their inner strengths and manifest their own aspirations. This balance ensures that they remain grounded while reaching for the stars, understanding that every action has a reaction, and every choice has a consequence.
Resourcefulness & Creativity
The Magician stands before a table of tools: the cup, wand, sword, and pentacle, which correspond to emotions, spirit, thoughts, and the material world respectively. Each of these are at The Magician’s disposal to work with and manifest their desires. The Magician's table of tools acts as a reminder of the endless possibilities that arise when we harness our own given abilities and resources.
It can be tempting when your child comes to you with a problem to quickly provide the solution to them. However, just as The Magician encourages us to tap into our inner resourcefulness, it's essential to guide your child towards discovering their own solutions. By doing so, you nurture their problem-solving skills and foster a sense of independence and confidence. Encouraging them to approach challenges with the mindset of The Magician can be transformative. Ask them to take a moment, reflect on the 'tools' they have at their disposal – their strengths, knowledge, and experiences – and consider how they might use these to address the issue at hand. Over time, this practice will not only cultivate resilience but also empower them to believe in their own capabilities. Like The Magician, they will learn that with intention, creativity, and resourcefulness, they too can manifest their desired outcomes in various situations.
