The Magician: As Above, So Below
I've been on something of a diet for the past month that's included me walking 2.75 miles most evenings. During my walks, if I'm walking alone, I pop in a podcast and walk with my thoughts. The topics I've been listening to have been mostly around Human Design, Carl Jung, Alchemy, and Tarot. If you're interested, here are some of the podcasts I highly recommend:
- The Beginner's Guide to Human Design
- Creative Codex (Lots of varied topics, can be very in-depth sometimes)
- The Tarot Diagnosis (Wonderful commentary on Tarot and its use with mental health)
- Awakened Tarot (Usually starts with current events and then jumps into Tarot and sometimes Astrology - I like her interpretations though.)
- Soror Mystica (Single topic-driven podcasts that can be very deep)
- The Alchemical Mind (Lots of varied topics, can be very in-depth sometimes)
A recurring topic I've been encountering is the concept of the energy we emit (sometimes referred to as auras) and how this energy influences the reactions of others. I think we have all been in situations where the "vibe" of the place is just really off and we feel uncomfortable; something is "wrong." Alternatively, there are people who are always a joy to be around because they make you feel comfortable - like you can be yourself without fear of judgement or ulterior motive.
Our intentions and mindsets have a direct impact on the energy we share with the environment around us. I've read our personal energy (auras) emits about 6ft. around us. I think there are some people who broadcast this energy more clearly than others. You can see this with the kids on the playground: you can usually get a good reading of who the "problem" kids are just by a feeling. If you open yourself to it, you really can feel it. Animals can also sense it.
If we go into something with a bad attitude, it often has a direct impact on the result. Great example: if I'm really not in the mood to cook/make dinner - it usually has a direct impact on the outcome of the meal. Over-salted, dry, undercooked, burnt - there always seems to be something amiss. If we go into a discussion feeling combative or defensive, our energy sets the tone and it's going to be a challenge to find common ground.
This brings me to the notion of "As above, so below." Our intentions and mindset have a direct impact on what we put into the world. The Magician, in Tarot, is the great Creator who channels energy from the ethos down to Earth; what he manifests, he makes reality. I've been really thinking about this a lot lately because we broadcast our intentions through our energy. It's made me question how I am seen by others and what kind of energy I put out. I also think about the Magician and the infinity symbol that is always included in the rendering of the Magician. This reminds me of the cyclical nature of energy: what goes around, comes around. It makes me think - what kind of person do I want to be? What kind of energy do I want to put out? How do I want others to perceive me? What kind of energy do I want to attract or bring back?
For those who don't know me, I ... don't really like people. I try to steer clear for the most part, and you can find me rushing around at 90 mph at the grocery store so I can get the fuck out. If I see someone I know at the grocery store, I will literally hightail it in the opposite direction. If I'm blindsided, yes, I can be gentile and have a conversation if needed - but I do my best to avoid those kinds of situations. I think my background in theatre has helped some because I can "act" the part and smile or whatever, but as soon as they're gone - the smile's gone and I'm just like "fuuucckkkkkk... get me out." Is it social anxiety? Probably. I mean, it's not my intention, but I really just don't like social situations. Can that be fixed by just focusing on how I want to be portrayed?
I learned in Human Design that I am what is called a "Manifestor" - someone whose energy can sometimes push people away because we can come off as arrogant or high energy - sometimes called the "Manifestor's repelling aura." It's a real thing. The "repelling" nature of a Manifestor's aura refers to the fact that their energy tends to be self-contained and self-sufficient. Manifestors are designed to initiate and make things happen independently, without necessarily needing to involve others in their decision-making process. This can create a dynamic where others might feel a certain distance from a Manifestor or sense that they are not always accessible or open to collaboration.
It's me, hi. I'm the problem; it's me. Just kidding, I don't really see that as a problem.
I love the idea of being a Manifestor (and what I've read about it makes SO much sense to me), and I love that the Magician is the Great Manifestor. It makes me feel like I have so much control over what I put out into the world. I can choose to be a bitch, or I can opt to be a Hermit. In reality, I'm probably both anyway. However, I want to encourage my kiddo to understand how his attitude can impact his success. And as much as I hate affirmations and shit like that, I think there IS something for having a set intention and desired outcome and putting forth the energy to make it happen. It takes understanding, purpose, and dedication to make it so.
What is your energy type in Human Design? Want to know? You can have your chart created for free at myhumandesign.com and then you can search up (or listen to some podcasts) about your type. I'd love to hear about what you are and if you agree with it.
